We are looking for a talented, highly personable and motivated, community organiser to work with Surrey Wildlife Trust to reverse the nature and climate emergencies. Your mission will be to nurture and empower the communities which make up the fabric of our local urban areas. Key focus will be within communities in Guildford and Woking. You will enable people to help themselves through a series of facilitated and sustainable activities leading to a ripple effect of people taking action for nature. Our office base is in Pirbright and travel across Surrey will be a necessary part of the role, visiting sites and communities. The role will include working occasional weekends and out of hours working. Our hybrid working policy aims to provide a good work/life balance which can incorporate partial home working whilst having an interesting and challenging working environment. This is a short term contract for 2 years until June 2024. About you You will need previous experience of successfully working with a wide range of communities, including young people, and the ability to reach and inspire others in nature conservation. You are committed to supporting community powered change and facilitating local people to empower themselves to act for nature. Confidence at public speaking, and the ability to listen, absorb and allow effective conversation in community forums is essential. This role will enable you to make a real difference to nature’s recovery and to be part of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s vision to protect 30% of land by 2030. About the project This role is part of a national project delivered by the Wildlife Trusts, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. As part of this project, we will inspire and empower the UK’s most economically and nature deprived communities, helping them identify new places for nature that are important to them. We will also enable communities to reclaim and create new green spaces for nature in both rural and urban areas. Through this shift in approach, we aim to achieve a ‘tipping point’, where 1 in 4 people are inspired to become change makers within their local community. Achieving this critical mass of people taking action will lead to real, positive change for both nature and the climate.
