Description

The Cape Flats Nature Partnership builds good practice in the sustainable management
of biodiversity network sites, in a people-centred way that develops local leadership for
conservation action and benefits surrounding communities - particularly areas where
incomes are low and living conditions poor.

The successful candidate must have a relevant postgraduate degree or diploma, with at least
2 years’ experience in urban community conservation, must be an excellent communicator
(verbal and written) in English and one other official language with strong planning and
implementation skills and also committed to community development and nature. The
incumbent must be a team player who can work independently, be computer literate in Word,
Excel and e-mail and hold a valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities will include: • Building community partnerships and involvement in
conservation • Developing and implementing environmental education projects • Supporting
biodiversity management that integrates social and biodiversity priorities • Contributing to
ongoing learning about urban nature conservation practice.

The Community Conservation Officer will be based in Atlantis or Mamre and seconded to
the City of Cape Town Biodiversity Management Branch for all operational and supervisory
requirements.

SANBI offers an annual all-inclusive salary of R144 733.64.
