Community Engagement Officer - supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund

Status: Fixed term for 28 months

Salary: £19k pa

Location: Cumbernauld

Closing date: 4 May 2015

Over 28 months the successful candidate will work closely with Cumbernauld’s wide-ranging youth communities to help design and deliver urban greenspace improvements, improve wildlife habitats and celebrate the town’s natural heritage. 

Taking on board the views of local young people, the Community Engagement Officer will help them develop a community action plan and provide support to help deliver a series of hands-on practical initiatives that bring about real change.  A key action will be to celebrate local greenspaces and highlight the community’s achievements through a range of media, public events and interpretation. 

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and have experience in community engagement work.  He/she will have excellent knowledge of the local natural environment, along with the skills to engage a broad range of people.  They will be creative and able to inspire action in others, and make things happen!  First class organisational skills, excellent communication and an understanding of community and conservation issues in Central Scotland is essential.   The role involves some out-of-hours working.
