Community Composting Courses

Our Community Composting for Local Food project is running a second round of training courses and follow up support. The aim of the project is to help communities grow their own food and grow it more sustainably and successfully, using their own high quality locally produced compost. The project is funded by the Big Lottery Local Food programme and the the course is accredited by CIWM (Chartered Institute of Waste Management).

The 3 day courses, on everything you'd want to know about making and using compost (and more!) are available via the project's 10 Training Hubs which are also demonstration sites:  

Training Hubs and Dates:

  • Bradford Environment Project - 31st October, 7th and 14th November;
  • Brighton, Moulsecoomb Forest Garden - 12th, 19th and 26th October;
  • Cheltenham, Down to Earth and Landown Community Composting Club  - 22nd and 29th November and 6th December;
  • Coventry, Garden Organic Ryton Gardens - 16th, 23rd, 30th January
  • Liverpool Rotters - 14th, 15th 21st and 22nd of November;
  • Middlesbrough Environment City - 16th, 23rd October and 6th November;
  • Nottingham, Arkwright Meadows Community Garden - 9th, 16th and 23rd November;
  • Slough, Iver Environment Centre - 8th, 15th and 22nd November;
  • Devon, Westward Ho! Seize the Moment (Happy Cafe) - 15th and 22nd October and 5th November;
  • York Rotters (Friends of St. Nicolas Fields) - 9th, 23rd and 30th November.

After the courses there is follow-up 1:1 support available to help you make you’re composting plans a reality. You will also be offered the loan of basic composting equipment to help you get composting as soon as possible. You will also be invited to join in follow up workshop so you can meet up again with people from your course and from previous courses so that you can swap stories and useful info.

The cost for the courses starts at £150* and there are bursaries available for additional participants from Black and Minority Ethnic groups. Payment by instalments is available. *includes 6 months membership of the Community Composting Network.
