Communications Specialist
Rancho Cordova (Sacramento), California – Western Regional Office

Overview:
The Communications Department of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) seeks an experienced, full-time Communications Specialist for the DU Western Regional Office (WRO) in Rancho Cordova, Calif. The successful candidate will have a strong command of the English language, have excellent writing and communications (broadcast, print, digital and social media) skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office software, and possess basic photography/videography skills. The candidate must be an energetic self-starter who is detail-oriented, has the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time – and meet daily deadlines for each. The candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Write, edit and distribute press releases, alerts and other communications to national, regional, state and local media
  • Provide content for the various DU websites, newsletters, annual reports, DU Magazine and other publications
  • Creatively promote DU through various broadcast, digital and social media outlet projects
  • Work with in-house video staff to develop DU video projects
  • Place DU stories in regional and national media outlets on a regular basis
  • Develop and distribute DU educational and marketing materials
  • Arrange interviews and support DU’s media relations efforts
  • Attend and assist with DU media outreach, fundraising and other events
  • Represent DU at conferences and outside events as assigned
  • Some travel required; other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field with 2-3 years of verifiable experience preferred. An understanding of the natural resources/conservation field is a plus. The position is located in Rancho Cordova, Calif., at DU’s Western Regional Office and reports to the Director of Communications at DU’s National Headquarters in Memphis, TN.
