description and main duties

Contract for developing a communications plan and ongoing activities for the Climadat project, participate in the overall communications strategy of the UDIC Unit and LAO, and take the main responsibility in communicating results to the press and media. The applicant, as head of UDIC and LAO communications office, will prepare dissemination activities related to the goals of the contracting Units and if needed, also for IC3, in the field of climate research in addition to those specific to the CLIMADAT project. Fundraising seeking activities are also expected from the candidate and in this sense; the candidate must have skills and experience in mentoring search and in establishing partnerships and alliances with other centers, institutions, private firms and donors. The candidate is expected to also write regularly activity reports and technical justifications for the funding bodies.
 

desired skills / qualifications

PhD in climate sciences or similar is mandatory. Ideal candidates will have several of the following attributes:
-          Proven capacity and previous experience of at least 3 years in a similar position is required. If experience is less, the candidate will be not considered for the job post.
-          Fluent English is a mandatory requirement that the candidate should demonstrate presenting the corresponding diplomas, while fluency in Spanish and Catalan will be also valued.
-          Flexibility in travelling around Spain to visit the CLIMADAT network and interact with the local stakeholders and media is a requirement, as well as availability to visit foreign institutions.
-          Capacity to write proposals, manuscripts and to work with other colleagues in a highly collaborative environment will be valued.

Conditions and application procedures

The position is opened for 12 months with a possibility for extension for a second year depending on performance. The position will start preferably in May 2014 or as soon as possible after that date. The salary will be commensurate with experience. Salary complements will be possible in connection with private funds raised by the candidate. Selected final candidates should ask for two letters of recommendation from former employers. Possibility for an immediate incorporation will be strongly considered.
