Reporting to CCAP’s Director of Operations, the Communications Officer will help develop and implement the strategy for all communications, including the web site, blogs, policy reports and briefings, and constituent outreach. The communications officer will work closely with senior policy and program staff within CCAP to help motivate, edit and shape external communications materials. The materials should position CCAP as an innovator in climate policy; distinguish CCAP from others working in the field; and inform and engage key stakeholders. Expected salary range is 65,000 – 75,000 USD per annum depending onthe individual’s qualifications and experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Manager

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s annual communications plan in collaboration with the CCAP team.
  • Manage the collection, editorial shaping and distribution of CCAP information to its key external audiences. Content includes, but is not limited to, policy briefs, meeting summaries, newsletters, brochures, and CCAP’s Web site. 
  • Work with leadership and policy staff to identify communications opportunities on a consistent, ongoing basis; to determine messaging, timing and appropriate packaging for release of this information (e.g., blog, Web site only, press release, email blast); to set deadlines and manage the content development and dissemination process.
  • Work with Director of Operations to oversee external contractors and service providers as needed – e.g., print designers, writer/editors, web developers and programmers, and database vendors and support providers – to ensure exceptional service and results. 
  • Hire and supervise administrative staff and intern(s) as needed.
Materials development and web communications
  • Lightly copyedit staff-generated content to ensure consistent messaging via succinct, compelling prose.
  • Ensure quality and consistency of message and style for all CCAP’s communications.
  • Oversee regular updating and relevance of CCAP’s Web site as the organization’s primary communications vehicle.
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance and updating for three Web sites:www.ccap.org, www.ccapeurope.eu and www.growingwealthier.info. Ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
  • Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time.

Constituent relations management and information dissemination

  • Oversee the maintenance and categorization of a database of CCAP key stakeholders.
  • For all CCAP-generated content, determine to whom, how and when to disseminate such content, and implement accordingly.
  • Manage all communication materials and channels, including collateral, web properties and electronic publications; ensure high-quality and consistent design and editorial standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
  • Five to seven years of communications experience in an issues-oriented nonprofit, think tank or academic environment.
  • Experience in a well-run communications shop with established processes and systems.
  • Outstanding and well-honed writing and editing skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • A solid understanding of best practices for content, tone, style and organizational structure for an effective web site.
  • Ability to win the trust of technical experts and senior staff.
  • Experience overseeing and working with outside vendors (e.g., designers and developers). 
  • Experience supervising administrative staff and interns.
  • A self-motivated, creative individual who is willing to take initiative and shows good judgment.
  • Versatility and flexibility in dealing with the realities of smaller, fast-paced organizations. 
  • Professional experience in and knowledge of the clean air industry and related environmental and policy issues preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required.
