Senior Communications and Media Advisor (Full Time)

Forest & Bird is a voice for New Zealand wildlife and wild places, and has been for over 90 years. We are an independent society that both campaigns for the protection of our natural history and co-ordinates community-based restoration projects. We need an experienced communications person to ensure that our voice for nature continues to be heard. We are seeking a Senior Communications and Media Advisor to guide us and to implement many of our communications.

You will work within our Marketing & Communications team, and closely with our Conservation and Campaign teams to ensure that our campaigns and messages are getting out there. You will be expected to develop strategies to engage media, and have the skills to implement these plans. You will also provide media advice and guidance to our staff, branch committees and project managers.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Several years' experience working in the communications area.
  • A proven track record of writing for media. Led several communications based campaigns.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or related professional journalistic, public relations or communications experience (3 years or more).
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and multi-task as part of a flexible team.
  • Positive upbeat interpersonal skills to meet with the public at events and work with volunteers at our projects.
  • An understanding and knowledge of conservation and related issues.

Communications Officer (Part Time)

Forest & Bird is a voice for New Zealand wildlife and wild places, and has been for over 90 years. We are an independent society that both campaigns for the protection of our natural history and co-ordinates community-based restoration projects. We need a communications person to ensure that our voice for nature is being heard. We are seeking a part-time Communications Officer for our Auckland Office to help us communicate our conservation activities and projects in the Auckland Region more effectively.

You will engage with Forest & Bird volunteer branch committees and project co-ordinators, and help them promote their projects locally, and ensure that their projects or campaigns receive national office attention. Conversely you will also inform and activate the Auckland branches about national campaigns.

This position is part of our Wellington-based Marketing & Communications team. As part of that team this position will also provide support for national campaigns and events.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Several years experience working in the communications area.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • A proven track record of networking and writing for the media.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or related professional journalistic, public relations or communications experience.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and multi-task as part of a flexible team.
  • Positive upbeat interpersonal skills to meet with the public at events and work with volunteers at our projects.
  • An understanding and knowledge of conservation and related issues.

Magazine Editor (Part Time/Contract)

Wellington Forest & Bird is a voice for New Zealand wildlife and wild places, and has been for over 90 years. We are an independent society that both campaigns for the protection of our natural history and co-ordinates community-based restoration projects. A key publication for our organisation is our quarterly Forest & Bird Magazine We are currently looking for an editor to ensure that our magazine continues to be an effective voice for New Zealand's nature and represent the hard work of our passionate volunteers.

The role of this position is to edit and deliver four high quality magazines per year. This includes writing several of the feature articles, managing other writers and contributors, liaising with the designer, and printers. The editor will also be responsible for staying within budget and managing distribution.

This will be a contract position and part of Forest & Bird's Marketing & Communications team. As part of that team this position will also provide support for national campaigns and events.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience with a proven track record in writing and editing publications.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or related professional journalistic, public relations or communications experience.
  • A high level of organisational skill.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and multi-task as part of a flexible team.
  • Positive upbeat interpersonal skills to meet with the public at events and work with volunteers at our projects.

Communications Officer (Full Time)

We are seeking a Communications Officer to help us communicate more effectively within our organisation, and to support our external communications.

You will lead our internal communications yet also support our comms officers in the external comms space. Working within our Marketing & Communications team, you will network with other key teams, with our Board and with our volunteer branch network in order to shine some light on all the aspects of this great organisation.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working in the communications area.
  • Some internal comms experience (but this is not a requirement).
  • A proven track record of networking and writing for the media.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or related professional journalistic, public relations or communications experience.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and multi-task as part of a flexible team.
  • Positive upbeat interpersonal skills to meet with the public at events and work with volunteers at our projects.
