The Greenpeace campaign and fundraising teams work to deliver global campaign goals, which are reflected regionally and locally. To this end the communications officer is a team player within local and regional teams, and as a part of the global teams. This post is based at the Greenpeace Mediterranean office in Beirut but may involve occasional travel within the region. Specific Areas of ResponsibilityCommunications Strategies - Raising the profile and visibility of the organization, communicating global and regional organizational messages.
- Design and implement innovative communications strategies aligned with campaign and fundraising strategies as a team.
- Implement on-going evaluation of campaign and fundraising messages and materials.
- Work with teams to identify and engage target audiences with Greenpeace’s campaign messages, ensuring coordination and consistency in output; holding organisational responsibility for expertise in all communications tools, including print and broadcast media, new media (assisting with web and cyber activism), and direct communications and actions.
- Media Communications and Monitoring.
- Maintain and develop relationships with media representatives, journalists, external agencies and contacts.
- Monitor and advise on editorial trends, media attacks and anti-environmental public relations strategies.
- Ensure media systems, including up-to-date contacts database, regular mailings to feature journalists, lists of freelance photographers and camera operators are maintained by the organisation.
- Maintain quantitative and qualitative media tracking, provide monthly reports and conduct analysis and identify opportunities.
- Maintain an overview of Greenpeace actions and communications taking place globally, identifying opportunities for media promotion within Lebanon and in the region.
- Manage photographers and videographers contracted for activities in accordance with GP Med requirements.
- Ensure professional management of the Greenpeace audio visual collection, ensuring that the collection is maintained properly.
- Manage access to organisation-wide collection of audio-visual equipment (hardware and software) and resources (videos, slides, photos).
- Manage the distribution of images and footage, and process invoices and payments for all audio-visual materials accordingly.
Editorial Functions- Write and disseminate newsletter and media communication materials, including press releases, brochures, advisories, background briefings, reports, web stories, question and answer briefings, press packs etc;
- Standardise print, design and production processes for Greenpeace communications, in cooperation with fundraising staff, including sourcing/producing and implementing an in-house style-guide.
Website Development and Use- Keep abreast of current developments in web technology.
- Maintain and author website, participate in development of it in close cooperation with Regional New Media Coordinator.
- Advise on appropriate web content and co-ordination of communications output.
Team Work & Internal Communication- Work and communicate continuously, openly and co-operatively with other team members to ensure that the whole team delivers the objectives of the project.
- Co-ordinate and liaise with the RSCO and Communications Unit Head (CUH) on external and internal communications
- Produce regular internal reports, evaluating the performance of Greenpeace’s communications output against communications and campaign objectives., viz: daily activity report, monthly media report, any other report that may be asked by RSCO and CUH.
- Respond to challenges, explore ideas and take initiatives in all aspects of team work.
- Adapt roles within team as appropriate, including playing supportive roles to other members of the team as necessary, share skills and assist the development of other members of the team.
- Take full part in the self-evaluation of team campaign and fundraising projects at their completion
- Meet project and office deadlines and manage personal workload accordingly.
- Monitor and control communications budgets;

- Skills and Qualifications
- Language: Fluent in Arabic and English.
- Communication and Organisational Skills. Experienced in public communications. Good communicator and team player. Capable of developing and presenting detailed and realistic plans. Able to working under stress and meet deadlines.
- Computer: Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and email.
- International Experience: High degree of creativity and flexibility to combine local, regional and global political demands from different levels of the campaign.
- Budget Management. Able to prepare, present and comply with an operational budget. Creative and resourcefulness enough to make impacts on limited budgets.
- Strategic Thinking. Contribute to the development of communications strategies. Assess and select the targets most relevant to achieving campaign objectives. Willing to explore new ideas and options
