Based in Brussels, full time. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside our Climate and Energy and Communications teams to help deliver a successful pan-European climate campaign.
FoEE campaigns for sustainable and just societies and for the protection of the environment. It unites more than 31 national organisations with thousands of local groups and is part of the world's largest grassroots environmental network, Friends of the Earth International.
The Big Ask unites Friends of the Earth groups in 17 countries across Europe all with the same Big Ask - that their governments commit to reduce carbon emissions, year on year, every year. The Big Ask is engaging people across Europe and empowering them to take action and to influence decisions taken by both national governments and the European Union. www.thebigask.eu www.foeeurope.org/climate
Key tasks and responsibilities:
· Plan and deliver a communications strategy for the Big Ask campaign in Europe · Develop and maintain tools for communication between groups, including for sharing resources, experiences and successes · Manage the European Big Ask internal website (OpenSource CMS) and a shared calendar for the campaign · Produce a regular internal newsletter, including sourcing news and images, writing and editing copy, design, layout and distribution · Support the planning, organisation and delivery of internal and network events such as campaign strategy meetings and skillshares · Coordinate working groups made up of communicators from the FoEE network · Source and write content for the European Big Ask website and the climate and energy pages of the FoEE website, and update webpages using Dreamweaver and CMS · Work with the Communications team in Brussels and FoEE national groups to promote the Big Ask campaign to the media, including writing, editing and distributing · Support the planning, organisation and delivery of external events such as press conferences, media briefings, actions and tours · Support the Climate and Energy team with applications and reports to funders including contributing content, editing and proofreading
Essential requirements Educated to degree standard or able to demonstrate equivalent level of analytical and research skills At least one year experience of working in communications with an NGO, PR agency, government institution or corporation Experience of meeting both internal and external communications needs, preferably in a network organisation Experience of events management Experience of managing complex work schedules Demonstrable web skills and experience of web editing Fluency in English, including written, of comparable level to a native speaker Demonstrable web skills and experience of web editing Able to work in a team and independently in an international context Flexibility and multi-tasking skills Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workloads Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and to travel to attend meetings, including travel abroad Sense of humour and creativity Commitment to the values, vision and mission of Friends of the Earth
Desirable Proficiency in Photoshop, Dreamweaver and CMS Fluency in a second European language Familiarity with the Big Ask campaign and the work of Friends of the Earth Europe Knowledge of climate change topics
The position will ideally start in January 2009, full time at 5 days per week. The position is based in our office in Brussels. Salary between Euro 1950 to 2100 gross, depending on experience, plus benefits (13th month salary, holiday allowance, luncheon vouchers, pension scheme, hospitalisation insurance). Conditions according to Belgian legislation. FoEE offers a highly motivating working environment in an international NGO.
