Salary £15,000-£18,000 depending on experience

The Westcountry Rivers Trust is looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a good knowledge of the environmental or conservation sectors to become their Communications Officer.

The Communications Officer will be required to prepare press releases, articles and technical documents for publication in a variety of media types, including traditional print media, film/TV, online/websites and new media such as social networking sites.

The successful candidate will be equally at ease writing for both technical and non-technical audiences and will be capable of adjusting their style to suit the audience and media type being used. The holder of this role will be required to explore all aspects of the Trust’s work and will also interact with a diverse range of our external stakeholders such as farmers, anglers, government agencies, NGO’s and the wider public. Therefore strong interpersonal and oral communication skills are also essential.

The Communications Officer will particularly be working to prepare material for presentation on the web (and potentially other multimedia types) and so experience of web or multi-media publishing/authoring would be a huge advantage in the role. In addition, the Trust is looking to make more effective use of the web in its communications and so experience in the use of the web in outreach, education or marketing would also be an advantage.

Due to the technical nature of our work it will be essential for the Communications Officer to have a good knowledge or background in the environmental or conservation sectors. A degree is not an essential requirement but we are looking for someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about the environment and who has a keen interest in the communication of science and/or environmental education/outreach/engagement.

This post will be full time for a fixed-term of one year and will be based at the HQ of the Westcountry Rivers Trust in Stoke Climsland, Cornwall

To apply, please send a covering letter (not more than one side A4) and Curriculum Vitae to the following address before the Friday, 4th November 2011.
