Duties and Responsibilities

 

After 5 years since its inception, Nexus is moving into a growth period expanding our services from providing access to finance to over 20 members through the carbon markets, to open up new mechanisms such as crowdfunding and a working capital fund.

The Communications Manager will be key in ensuring high quality and effective communication to our stakeholders throughout this new phase. Communication is essential to building strong connections, and Nexus engages with a number of actors:

  • Members of the cooperative (through an online forum, direct mailings, webinars and calls)
  • Corporate partners (through direct mailings and carbon offsets)
  • Supporters (through the newsletter and social media)
  • Potential members and partners (through conferences and social media)
  • Individuals via crowdfunding platforms

 

This role is best suited to an individual who is passionate about climate-friendly development, excited about working with an international team and stakeholders, and is driven to produce high quality work in collaboration with an exceptional team and Nexus members. There is significant room for growth in this position.

The Communication manager will report directly to the Director of Communications and Corporate partnership and will manage a team of 2 to 3 people. Responsibilities of the Communication Team, which will be led and managed by the Communications Manager, include the following:

 

1.     Develop and implement the communication strategy: Raise Nexus Profile

 

1.1.      Branding

Nexus is currently going through a rebranding process facilitated by an external agency. The Communications Manager will work closely with the agency to:

a)      Implement and maintain consistent branding across Nexus communications material

b)      Update and develop new Nexus marketing material (set of brochures and project briefs)

c)       With support from the communications agency, conduct the revamp of Nexus websites (www.nexus.org and www.nexusbeyondoffsetting.org)

 

1.2.      Develop visual content

a)      Work in collaboration with our members and the different teams to translate technical data into marketable and visual contents

b)      Create videos, photos, and project updates to use on the Nexus website, provide updates to funders (corporates, partner organizations, crowdfunding platforms) and that can also be used in social media

 

1.3.      Events

a)      Develop, plan, and manage the roll out of the communication strategy, logistics, and overall management of Nexus events including the annual Innovative Finance for Sustainable Development Conference (IFSD)

 

2.     Management of Communications unit

1.1.      Strategy

a)      Contribute to Nexus strategic direction

b)      Conceive, write up and present communications strategies.

c)       Conceive, write up and present a yearly work plan and contribute to development of budget for the Communications unit

 

1.2.      Human resources

a)      Manage and control projects led by the communications team

b)      Anticipate human resources needs (plan and manage recruitments)

c)       Ensure development of communications staff

 

Profile

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in communications or marketing including experience within a not-for-profit organization
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing or equivalent
  • Native English speaker with excellent writing skills (a written test will take place during the interview)
  • Experience in working with a communications agency
  • Experience managing CRM system (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Experience managing a team
  • Interest in social media and web communications
  • Proficient in MS Office, Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Strong knowledge of energy and climate change issues
  • A background in climate finance and/or experience in development organizations would be a plus
