TFT is a global non profit organisation that helps companies address social and environmental sustainability issues in their supply chains and change their products for good.  With over 80 corporate members, and staff operating in 14 countries, the organisation is growing rapidly and seeking to recruit talented and committed individuals capable of delivering TFT’s goal of becoming the most respected sustainability organisation in the world.

As part of its growth strategy, TFT has identified a need to strengthen its ability to communicate and engage with its stakeholders, globally and is seeking to recruit a new Communications Manager into its UK office in Southampton, Hampshire, UK.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design and delivery of a comprehensive communications strategy to support TFT’s operational objectives and significantly increase levels of engagement with key stakeholders including: media, corporate members, sustainability community, NGOs and staff
  • Managing all aspects of media relations including building a robust network of global media contacts through which to communicate TFT activity
  • Strengthening TFT’s use of social media and digital communications to significantly enhance visibility of TFT’s work and widen conversation and engagement among key stakeholder groups
  • Working closely with TFT’s corporate members to support the development of all aspects of sustainability communications emerging from partnership work with TFT, including with consumer audiences
  • Engaging TFT staff globally to generate a regular pipeline of high quality content with which to digitally communicate activity online
  • Copywriting and proofing key communications including, for example, press releases, TFT tweeting & blogging, website updates, tender responses and publications
  • Support TFT’s Operations Director in developing and delivering an internal communications strategy for improving employee engagement across the workforce, globally. 

TFT is seeking an individual with experience (minimum of 5 years) in designing and delivering global communications strategies, with an emphasis on external communications. Specifically, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in managing communications issues in or with large businesses and the NGO/ non profit sector, including at senior levels
  • A track record of success in building and leveraging a network of media contacts to meet communications objectives
  • Ability to fully utilise the benefits of social media for communications & engagement
  • An understanding of the social and environmental sustainability agenda, especially issues relating to responsible products and supply chains; passion for, and commitment to, creating change in the interests of sustainable development
  • First class written and verbal communication skills (English essential; French desirable)
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to forge strong working relationships with individuals from a broad range of perspectives
  • A ‘self starter’ mentality and preparedness to operate successfully without close supervision
