FSC is registered as an international NGO in Mexico, but has its operational headquarters in Bonn, Germany. FSC has 5 Regional Offices and is represented through National Offices or Representatives in 45 countries across the world.

Mission Statement / Business Objectives of the Function:

The Communications Manager conveys the FSC brand, messages and values to maximize the impact of communication and communication tools for all stakeholder audiences by successful and consistent application of communications strategies across all channels.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


  • To support the development and implementation of a global communications strategy.
  • To provide expertise and resources to internal and external stakeholders (Network Partners, other strategic stakeholders, and units of FSC International) to implement communications strategies for all audiences.
  • To lead the development of project-, program- or topic-related communications strategies, in line with FSC’s global vision.
  • To lead the development of communications collateral, including educational materials.
  • To oversee the development, production and distribution of all newsletters and core publications, such as the annual report.
  • To lead relevant internal stakeholder communications, including with Network Partners.
  • To write and disseminate media releases, articles, editorials, etc.
  • To develop content for websites, social media and corporate communications material.
  • To provide comprehensive editorial support to the FSC Group.
  • To manage press engagement, maintain a high-quality media database and media monitoring reports as needed.
  • To support the development, implementation and day to day management of the global crisis communications strategy .
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the Director Communications.

Execution of Discretionary Power:

The position does not include any signing authority.

Functional Attribution to Organizational Unit:

  • Disciplinary and functional reporting: The Communications Manager reports to the Director Communications.
  • Functional supervision: The Communications Manager is responsible for the functional supervision of a limited number of staff.
  • Disciplinary supervision: None.

Cooperation with other Operational Units:

 

  • All units of FSC International (Director’s office, Policy and Standards, Quality Assurance, Business Development, Network, Central Services).
  • FSC A.C. in Mexico.
  • FSC Regional Offices.
  • FSC Network Partners (e.g. National Offices, National Representatives, National Focal Points).

The successful candidate demonstrates the following key competencies and qualities:

  • Education and training: University (bachelor or masters) degree in a relevant field (e.g. communications, marketing, journalism, public relations).
  • Working experience, style and skills:
    • At least 5 years of professional experience in communications work related to the roles and responsibilities of this position.
    • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling a number of functions simultaneously.
    • Experience in implementation of communications strategies, including crisis communication strategies.
    • Solution and service oriented attitude to work.
    • Extensive project management experience.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Proven ability to plan and organize work.
  • Leadership: At least two years of experience in supervising project teams.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
    • Spanish is a plus.
    • Other language(s) would be a plus.
  • Computer skills:
    • Excellent skills in the use of standard software packages (MS Office).
    • Strong Experience with Content Management Systems.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including copy writing and media release writing.
    • Experience in communicating with the media.
    • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Others:
    • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
    • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
    • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.
    • Familiarity at the general level with the scope of FSC’s programs of standard setting, accreditation, trademark management and political engagement.
    • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.

Terms and Conditions:

 


  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working hours: Full Time - 40 working hours per week.
  • Duration of contract: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible).
  • Starting date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
