Opportunity to join leading international organization’s New Delhi office, working on ground-breaking programs with businesses and governments.

The Climate Group is looking for a talented and ambitious communications professional to join a growing India team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving the communications for our programs on renewables, electric vehicles, growing energy access and climate action. It will be an opportunity to work with leading Indian business and state and regional governments, as well as working as part of an international team with colleagues in China, UK and US.

We are undergoing an exciting period of evolution and are investing to match the growing leadership in accelerating global climate action. Our communications objective is to be a leader in telling the positive story of climate action and this has a critical role in our strategy. We are looking for a skilled, experienced communication professional, with understanding of topical policy issues, entrepreneurial and ambitious by nature with a passion for our mission and quality integrated communications.

About the role 

Building organisational profile, generating newsworthy content, innovative policy communications and driving integrated corporate communications is the focus of this role.

This role is placed at the intersection of India Global Communications teams. It is a mid-senior role, with potential for growth, based in our New Delhi office. It could suit someone who is driving communications and public policy work, from within a business or a development sector player who works on enviro-economic, energy or similarly complex issues. A background in consultancy, a trade body, or certain public roles may also qualify. Ideally, this role is for someone who has worked as a part of an international team, with proven experience of delivering communications that play a critical role for the organisation. 

Your experience of work must include working with media and social media within integrated communications initiatives, involvement in strategic planning and tactical negotiation of challenging situations. Writing and producing compelling, high-quality content for multiple channels will be a critical part of the job as will delivery of notable events in the Indian development and business sectors.

The successful candidate will report to India Director (New Delhi) and will have a dotted line to International Communications Director (London).

 

About you

As an adaptable self-starter, you will have the ability to execute agreed actions to a high level without intense supervision. You will be proactive in all you do and seek feedback from colleagues to ensure continuous improvement in everything you work on. You will be evangelical about innovation and entrepreneurial in spirit - with ideas of how we can evolve our own work and processes.

Essential:

  • A seasoned storyteller, with an eye for a good headline and the ability to develop a wide range content for specific target audiences
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape in India and experience of working across an international communications operation
  • Experience in strategic and tactical communications planning and execution to successfully drive profile and influence for an organisation
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with a high level of writing and editing skills, including ability to present complex concepts simply
  • Experience of working with both business and governmental stakeholders
  • Ability to understand topical areas of policy debate and deliver communication project that engage with those
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, integrated and international communications team public affairs, media, web, social media, use of design
  • Excellent written and proofreading skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Visually literate, experience of using design to deliver high quality content
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of levels – from colleagues to business leaders
  • Comfortable in contributing to wider team planning and effectively administering projects, from capturing outputs to using agendas to help maintain campaign momentum 
  • Good time management skills, with ability to prioritize workload and conflicting requests from senior internal and external stakeholders

 

Desirable:

  • Ability to instinctively dcraft proactive comms plan aligned to organisations’ priorities framework
  • Experience in evidence-based communications, such as working with quantitative research findings
  • Abilities in external affairs and stakeholder relationship management with a talent for developing your own stakeholder network

 

Main responsibilities

Strategic Communications 

  • Act as a core member of India and Global Communications team, guiding the team on matters relating to clean energy and climate action in India
  • Play a major role in the creation and delivery of the India communications plans 
  • Advising the whole India team on content and communications, driving it to be pithy, visual, interesting and accessible to our audiences – to better profile our brand and influence.

Planning & Coordination

  • Participate in development and implementation of organisation-wide strategic communications planning and lead the same for India
  • Develop India-specific comprehensive communications strategies that support the overall strategic direction of The Climate Group

Media Relations

  • Manage proactive and reactive media relations, including developing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists to drive news coverage in India
  • Lead the development of news releases, editorials, publications, social etc
  • Ability to represent the whole of TCG to media and advise TCG spokespeople. 
  • Utilise our network of TCG Partners, including corporations, sub-national and national government, civil society organisations to support profile

Programmatic Comms

  • To ensure that every programmatic outreach of TCG India incorporates adequate communication plans and outreach in line with our global strategy
  • Support India Business Actions and Sub-national Climate Action teams to deliver on project commitments, around communications (including but not limited to messaging, social media outreach, events etc.) 

Policy and Influencing

  • Build India team’s engagement on topical policy issues, through increasing awareness of key debates and utilising communication vehicles to appropriately engage with them
  • Utilise external affairs to bring together our critical stakeholders and program participants on these issues
  • Follow political, public and media debates around India’s transition to clean energy and overall climate action and develop innovative communications strategies to shift the narrative 

Others

  • Develop Events strategy for India, in consultation with the India and the Global Comms team
  • Lead the editorial planning, coordination, content development, layout and production of India-specific content for TCG newsletters and more
  • Contributing to monitoring, evaluation and reporting (including some financial and administrative tasks)
  • Direct line management and annual appraisal of Comms Officer 
  • Undertake other related tasks, as and when required

 

Location

You will be based in our New Delhi office.

 

Terms and Conditions

This is a full-time position, based in New Delhi (India), with occasional travel expected to partner locations across India and our Headquarters in London. We offer a competitive salary based on experience.
