Internship Purpose: We are looking for an imaginative, engaged and creative individual with an interest in public and stakeholder-facing communications roles, including press engagement, website development and social networking, marketing and public relations. The internship role is attached to the work of the communications team, which is responsible for media and stakeholder engagement, web and website development and the evolution of ClientEarth’s print marketing and programme publications library.

The communications team supports and promotes the work of ClientEarth’s legal teams. ClientEarth operates in a broad range of fields: examples include marine protection, energy policy and climate change, international and EU schemes to reduce deforestation in tropical forests, and securing compliance with access to justice laws in theUKand at EU level. Interns will learn about the tools and approach of a public interest lawyer, and how to effectively communicate the power of the law in achieving social change.   

Key responsibilities

-          Helping grow ClientEarth’s social media presence;

-          Providing support with development and design of publications;

-          Assisting with drafting press releases and text for the ClientEarth website;

-          Updating ClientEarth website;

-          Writing blog posts;

-          Tracking media coverage and drafting responses where necessary.

 

Required skills and competencies

-          Excellent written and oral communication skills;

-          Aptitude for creativity and problem solving as well as an eye for detail;

-          Self starter who takes pride in their work;

-          Confident and professional manner;

-          Excellent written and spoken English, an ability to speak another European language would be a plus;

-          Commitment or experience in environmental protection an advantage.

Person Specifications:

-          Educated to at degree level;

-          Keen interest in developing a broad range of communications roles;

-          Practical experience of litigation highly regarded;

-          Positive attitude and a strong commitment to working for the environment. 

Internship Arrangements: We ask that interns commit to a minimum of 3 days per week for at least three months. The maximum duration for internships is six months. In instances where interns are not working full time, they should ideally commit to set days each week.

ClientEarth cover interns’ work-related expenses (travel and lunch) via a contribution of £10 for each day spent in the office.
