Position Summary: 

The Communications and Media Relations Consultant(s) will provide support to the Rainforest Alliance’s global Communications and Marketing team to help drive media coverage, support marketing campaigns, manage digital media including website, blogs and social media platforms and help increase awareness in their perspective markets of the impacts of the Rainforest Alliance. 

Responsibilities: 

Communications & Media:
  • Foster and maintain relationships with key journalists, bloggers, and influential voices in your country’s top sustainability and environmental outlets.
  • Write, distribute, and translate (as needed) press materials, blog posts, and other communications and marketing content as directed.
  • Drive social media within your market, fostering the growth of relevant platforms.
  • Proactively pitch stories to the media about sustainable agriculture, forestry, climate, tourism, and other relevant topics aligned with the organization’s overall communications and media outreach strategy.
  • Utilize appropriate communications channels to promote senior leadership and staff experts; such as thought leadership pieces, arranging media interviews for key staff experts, and promoting staff attendance at key industry events.
  • Help identify reputational risks and online stories that require timely response and assist with coordinating those responses with media and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Proactively and consistently establish relationships with new media in the digital space, trade publications and traditional media outlets in your market.
Marketing:
  • Partner with global marketing team to develop and implement marketing initiatives with priority collaborating companies within your market.
  • Support the launch of marketing campaigns, in coordination with the global marketing and Markets Transformation team.
  • Participate in local and regional events in support of the Rainforest Alliance’s global mission and elevate awareness and consumer engagement in your market.
  • Work closely with communications leadership team on global campaigns and initiatives.

Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with conservation issues a plus;
  • Fluency in English and the language of your market;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet, graphic design
  • Analytics and CRM database management;
  • Demonstrable success with media outreach and relations;
  • Keen interest and knowledge of social media in your market;
  • Dependability, diplomacy, and ability to work independently;
  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, able to juggle responsibilities, enthusiasm for the issue and a sense of humor;
  • Excellent organizational, research, and time management skills;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or related field preferred;
  • 5-10 years’ experience in communications and/or marketing;

Time Commit and Other Requirements: 

Part-time consultancy with limited travel
