Description

Communications and Marketing Manager, Denmark

Introduction

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the world’s leading marine ecolabelling and certification program for wild fisheries. The organisation's mission is to reverse the decline in global fish stocks, to deliver quantifiable improvements in marine conservation and thereby help to secure the livelihoods of those involved in the global fishing industry.  The MSC is recognised internationally as a groundbreaking and credible solution to the serious environmental problem of overfishing.

Further Information

The Danish fishing industry is very committed to the MSC programme, with an ambition to have all their fisheries engaged in the MSC programme and with some 50% of landings for human consumption certified. Denmark is amongst the top-10 markets in the world for MSC labelled seafood, and a major seafood trade/exporter in Europe. There are currently over 100 MSC Chain of Custody Certified Companies in the processing industry and almost 1000 MSC labelled products available for the Danish market. Danish consumers are amongst the most informed in the world about the MSC programme. One in three Danish consumers has seen the MSC ecolabel and an estimated 20 per cent knows what the ecolabel stands for. In 2012, the MSC ran the first nationwide multi-retailer campaign in  Denmark together with the three largest retailer groups (Dansk Supermarked, SuperGross, and Coop) and with key seafood producers with the aim of expanding and continuing to coordinate multi-partner MSC campaigns to help raise awareness of the MSC ecolabel and MSC’s organisational profile in Denmark.
