Background

- Global Wildlife Conservation (GWC) is a dynamic organization of scientists and conservationists who work globally to conserve wildlife and wildlands. GWC conducts biological expeditions, scientific research, and helps ensure the long-term conservation of species and habitats.

 

Position Overview

- GWC is currently searching for candidates to fill a communications and marketing internship position. This position is based in GWC’s Austin, TX office. The intern would preferably start in July 2011. Interns will work closely on communications, marketing, and outreach efforts to help draw attention to GWC’s biodiversity and conservation issues.

 

Responsibilities

GWC is seeking a full-time intern to start immediately.  Duties will include:

 - Conduct research for radio, television and print media stories;

- Gather information and graphics to inform and support communications;

- Plan and write press materials, including press releases, news advisories, pitch letters, editorial

   board memos, and web content;

- Draft opinion pieces, press releases, fact sheets, letters and other materials;

- Help develop the GWC website and conduct site maintenance

- Keep up with social media outlets    

 

Requirements 

- Bachelors degree, Masters degree a plus, preferably in environmental journalism,

   communications, or a related field;

- A strong interest and knowledge in nature conservation and environmental issues;

- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;

- Ability to work independently and with teams;

- Exceptional and versatile writing skills;

- Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analyze complex information;

- Flexibility, professional demeanor, and sound work ethic;

- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills;

- Strong computer skills are required, including proficiency with database programs.
