We are seeking a Communication/Marketing Intern at our Freshwater Institute located in Shepherdstown, WV. This is a summer internship that continues during the school semester and the individual should be able to work 10-15 hours per week during the semester.

Will work with the Program Director and TCF Marketing and Communications team to enhance and expand effective communications, public relations and marketing initiatives through web, social and conventional earned media pathways. Assists staff with preparation of materials for annual and management reports, meetings and workshops and client presentations. Receives guests and visitors and provides follow-up.

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with roll-out of new web site; update, prepare and format content
  • Monitor blogs, forums and social networks to gain understanding of our current presence and identify opportunities for targeted stakeholder engagement
  • Work with professional staff on LinkedIn professional network utilization
  • Explore crowd funding and web-based project funding models for applicability
  • Develop Twitter feed for project and program outreach
  • Create project centered digital video content for web publication
  • Develop traditional press and media releases and news briefs
  • Organize and curate academic and other publication files
  • Assist with image database
  • Enhance internal coordination and communication of calendars and travel schedules

Qualified candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communications with demonstrated knowledge of appropriate social media activity, forums, blogs, animation, video or website in a personal portfolio. Must have excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills; an interest in non-profit business models, land and water conservation, and technical
writing skills are helpful.
