Seas At Risk is looking for a Communications and Events intern to work at SAR’s Brussels office, starting as soon as possible

Seas At Risk (SAR) is an independent non-governmental association of national and international environmental organisations concerned with the protection and restoration of the marine environment. Seas At Risk is currently working on issues as diverse as the protection of deepwater ecosystems, greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, and other EU-level marine policies.

Seas At Risk is looking for an intern to work at SAR’s Brussels office, starting as soon as possible. The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:

- To assist SAR staff with the organisation of internal and external events.
- To liaise with speakers, coordinate logistics, handle participants’ registrations, etc.
- To assist SAR staff with the follow-up of events, e.g. producing meeting reports and related publications.
- To support the Communications Officer in communications and information tasks: management of contact databases and mailing lists, producing and uploading information to the SAR website.
- To manage Seas At Risk’s social networking activities, including Twitter and Facebook.
- To keep the educational website Learn2Sea (www.learn2sea.org) up to date and to publicise it amongst target audiences.
- Assisting SAR staff with policy and research work as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have experience with an organisation working in European affairs, excellent organisational and IT skills, and good interpersonal and communication skills. We are looking for a consummate team player who is also capable of working independently.

Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English, and in either French or Dutch. Knowledge of other European languages is desirable.

The post is based in Brussels. The successful candidate would start as soon as possible for a period of 3 months.

Seas At Risk offers:

- A professional and international working environment;
- Supervision by experienced Seas At Risk staff members;
- Experience with the EU institutions in Brussels;
- Experience with working in the environmental NGO community in Brussels;
- Facilities (computers, telecommunications, internet access, network etc.); and
- A contract for volunteer services.

Please note that Seas At Risk is only able to provide a small daily allowance of 9.50€ per worked day to its trainees.
