Job title: Communications & Marketing Manager (Maternity Cover)

Location: London or remote within the UK

Contract: Fixed term, 12 months

We are a climate analytics not-for-profit established in 2020 with the mission to accelerate climate action using data to support planning decisions in electricity and industry. We are entirely grant-funded by the Quadrature Climate Foundation, European Climate Foundation, Generation Investment Management, Google.org and Bloomberg Philanthropies, and our data is used by developers, financiers, planners and think tanks internationally.

About You

TransitionZero is seeking an experienced and capable communications/marketing professional to manage our comms function while our current communications and marketing manager is on maternity leave, for around 12 months from April 2023. The successful candidate will take on all responsibilities related to managing the communications and marketing of the organisation, including comms strategy, digital marketing and public relations. The role also includes liaising with comms-related contacts at partner organisations and coalitions, and being a central point of contact for TransitionZero’s comms launches. This role reports to the Head of Data Insights and is responsible for managing an external press consultant. 

Responsibilities:

You Will:

Manage communications strategy: 

  • Refine, adapt and execute the communications strategy, working closely with the Head of Data Insights and external press consultant, including managing deliverables and adjusting project pipelines as required.
  • Inform and monitor budgets for communications initiatives.
  • Liaise with communications representatives from relevant coalitions and partnerships, representing TransitionZero, and manage comms-related contractors when required.
  • Manage brand consistency in messaging and visual identity across all channels and outputs.
  • Report on comms and marketing metrics against KPIs.

Manage digital comms and marketing: 

  • Manage the social media accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn, Mastodon) according to the communications strategy, including creating and posting engaging content and responding to engagement. 
  • Manage the website (Squarespace) with a focus on improving SEO and updating regular content such as blogs and press releases, adding new team members, and making other edits as required.
  • Create and send marketing emails and newsletters (Mailchimp), manage the email list and ensure GDPR compliance.
  • Create simple graphics for social media and digital content (Canva).
  • Manage the planning, set-up and promotion of TZ webinars. 

Manage public relations:

  • Act as the internal and external point of contact for coordinating comms and launches.
  • Manage the relationship with TZ’s external press consultant, coordinating and supporting press activity and dealing with incoming press opportunities where needed.
  • Develop and maintain a calendar for key external events for TransitionZero to comment on, such as COP, G20 and major industry reports e.g. from the IEA.
  • Manage TZ’s engagement with external events and conferences.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Professional experience working in communications or marketing for at least 3 - 4 years
  • Project management skills, experience successfully coordinating comms launches
  • Understanding of branding, tone of voice and catering to niche audiences 
  • Ability to understand and summarise highly technical information, educating yourself about new topics where needed
  • Excellent writing skills 
  • Strong understanding of social media and experience specifically with Twitter and LinkedIn 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across the team and represent TransitionZero with external partners
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects and priorities at once 
  • Flexible and ‘can do’ attitude to adapt to the changing needs of a growing startup 

Beneficial:

  • Knowledge of climate and energy related topics 
  • Experience growing the audience of a niche B2B startup 
  • Degree in communications, marketing or a similar subject 
  • Experience effectively running social media ads and/or Google ads
  • Experience with SEO, graphic design, events and/or media relations 
  • Familiarity with specific tools we use, such as Squarespace, Mailchimp, Canva, Mangools, Buffer, Notion, Slack, Google Workspace
