SSE Renewables is responsible for the development and construction of the SSE Group’s European portfolio of renewable energy projects, including onshore and offshore wind, hydro, marine, biomass, and solar. SSE is the leading generator of renewable energy in the UK and Ireland, with over 2,200MW of renewable electricity generation capacity and a portfolio of over 15,000MW of renewable energy projects in construction, with consent or in development.

Airtricity is the SSE Group’s Irish supply brand supplying electricity and gas to domestic and business customers in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Due to continued growth, we are recruiting an experienced Commercial Solicitor.  Based out of our Dublin office, you will be part of the SSE Group in-house legal team and work closely with the SSE Renewables development teams and Airtricity Supply teams. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and advising on agreements relating to the energy supply and renewables business
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating share purchase agreements, shareholder agreement and managed service agreements
  • General corporate and commercial advice
  • Advising on data protection and general supply issues
  • Reviewing and advising the business on supply terms and conditions (domestic and commercial)
  • Working closely with the marketing and sales teams in relation to supply strategies and marketing materials
  • Negotiating, review and providing general advice and assistance on procurement and contractual matters including tender documents for construction contracts, energy supply agreements, power purchase agreements, tenders for studies, surveys, met masts, consultancies, turbine supply agreements etc
  • Prevention / resolution of legal disputes
  • Competition compliance

Skills and Experience:

  • Ideally 2 to 4 years’ post qualification experience in commercial practice or in-house setting
  • Ability to apply robust commonsense commercial filter to legal risk; clearly differentiating between theoretical and actual legal risks and to reflect such clear priorities succinctly in plain English
  • Strong commercial mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and proven relationship-building skills – ability to develop and sustain senior management relationships as well as internal relationships across a variety of roles and levels
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Interest in and aptitude for leading change and operating outside of your ‘comfort zone’ in complex and fast-changing internal and external business environments
  • Ability to interpret and understand key issues from executive to operational level and to translate these into action plans for resolution
  • You are an enthusiastic, pragmatic and down-to-earth lawyer who is able to connect equally well with legal and commercial colleagues throughout the business
  • Energy experience would be preferred but is not a pre-requisite.
