Description
POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Commercial Construction Civil Superintendent is responsible for overall direct field supervision of a single large-scale (greater than 400kW) or multiple small to medium-scale (100kW to 400kW) solar ground mount installation projects, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and safety practices are met.   The Civil Superintendent will be responsible to insure that Geo-tech and soils reports are followed, that the SWIPP’s requirements are adhered to and that grading requirements are meet. The position interfaces with Project Management to develop construction schedules, update construction schedule progress completion, obtain and direct subcontractors, and ensure that project is within budget.          
 
Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Manage and direct in-field construction and subcontracted resources (labor, sub-contractors, rental equipment, tools, and materials) for a single large-scale (600kW to 1 MW) or multiple small to medium-scale (100kW to 400kW) solar installation projects;
  • Interpret drawings and prepare RFI’s, Material Change Requests, and Design Change Requests;
  • Interpret soils reports, SWIPP’s drawings and grading plans to insure proper implementation.
  • Work with Project Management to develop accurate construction schedule forecasts and to keep them updated weekly to track labor usage, material deliveries, and equipment costs;
  • Work with Construction Services to coordinate labor forecasts and job staffing requirements;
  • Work with Engineering to provide pre-construction system design support with system design constructability and material take-offs, and post-construction constructability “lessons learned” feedback;
  • Work with Training and Safety personnel to ensure that new hires receive the requisite construction and safety training;
  • Maintain a high attention to detail and quality control under push to increase installation efficiency;
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Enforce site safety;
  • Manage a large work force, upwards to 25 personnel;
  • Maintain professional appearance.
     
 
Requirements (knowledge, skills, Education, Certifications and Experience)
  • High School diploma or equivalent, some Vocational/Technical/Business School or College is desirable;
  • 10-15 years of commercial construction experience and 5 years of construction supervision;
  • Desired Certifications: CEFPE Certification, SWIPPS Certifications and State General Contracting license
  • Proficient with heavy equipment operation
  • Experience executing a safety plan in the field
  • Strong sense of quality - must be able to both set an example of how to do high quality work and also must ensure crew performs high quality work;
  • Must have experience managing installation crews larger than 20 staff;
  • Strong computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project;
  • Proficient with spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic business math;
  • Think critically and able to solve problems;
  • Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion;
  • Good judgment and analytical skills;
  • Organizational and customer service skills;
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, Uniform Building Code, OSHA safety standards and small hand tools.
