The Colorado Plateau Initiative Director oversees all aspects of the Colorado Plateau Initiative, which involves a collaborative effort between the Conservancy’s AZ, NM, CO, and UT programs to conserve the CO Plateau.  The main purpose of the Initiative is to identify the most promising, landscape-scale conservation opportunities in the region and to elevate the CO Plateau as a national conservation opportunity for private and public funders.  The Director will be responsible for facilitating a Colorado Plateau Conservation Advisory Team of Conservancy leaders and partners, working with state chapters and partners to identify and explore the most promising large-scale conservation opportunities, and developing a compelling case for making the region a priority focal area for the America’s Great Outdoors (AGO) program launched by the Obama Administration.   The Director will work closely with the Director of Landscape Conservation and the relevant state chapters for promoting the CO Plateau as an AGO priority.  He/she will coordinate this work closely with the Colorado River Program, the Colorado River Collaborative, and the Colorado Plateau Private Lands Inventory.  The Director will serve as the principle contact for the Initiative to other conservation organizations, foundations and others.  The Director will also help the Conservancy’s landscape conservation team explore innovative approaches to whole system conservation nationwide. This position is a one-year, grant-funded position with potential to be extended.

The position includes the following functions:
• Defines major conservation opportunities in the region
• Helps develop complex and innovative solutions to conserve and protect large landscapes and natural communities
• Leads and manages team which supports and improves conservation efforts
• Develops key partnerships with public & private organizations around shared priorities
• Assesses community and political support for identified, large-scale conservation efforts
• Develops a compelling case for funding support of the CO Plateau including print materials and visuals as needed, and helps promote the CO Plateau as a priority for private and public funding
