Description

We have a current vacancy for an experienced Collection Manager to lead in the management of the Australian Museum’s Ornithology collection.

The primary purpose of the role is to increase the impact of science at the Australian Museum by managing, developing and strategically planning for collection-based infrastructure at the Australian Museum and engaging diverse audiences in the broader fields of science as part of AMRI.

Employment Status:

  • Scientific Officer Grade 3
  • Ongoing, starting in February 2025
  • Full time 35 hours per week

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $113,746 - $119,699, plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 11.5%) and annual leave loading. 

 

About you

You will have:

  • A thorough understanding of the key challenges facing natural history collections, such as curation, preservation and conservation, digitisation and access
  • A keen interest in supporting collections-based research
  • Experience in relevant field techniques, either directly or supporting
  • Experience in curation and management of Ornithology collections including databasing.
  • Experience in the management and preparation of various kinds of bird specimens.
  • Well-developed skills and knowledge relevant to explaining the value and importance of natural history.

 

Essential requirements 

  • Tertiary qualifications in zoological sciences, preferably specialising in Ornithology.
