ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Coastal Restoration Program Manager will lead the development and implementation of the New Jersey Chapter's coastal restoration and climate adaptation efforts along the coast of New Jersey, which will focus on restoring key coastal habitats (e.g., tidal marshes and oysters reefs) and utilizing nature-based adaptation options to reduce risk to communities from natural disasters. The program manager will have the opportunity to determine the how and where the New Jersey chapter will implement projects to ensure the functionality of coastal ecosystems and/or promote resilient coastal communities.

Responsibilities of the program manager will potentially include:

  • Working with partners, including local and state governments and other non-governmental organizations, to identify and implement coastal restoration/adaptation projects that will improve ecosystem functionality and reduce the risk of coastal flooding hazards.
  • Working in coordination with the Conservancy's Long Island Chapter to implement a regional post-Sandy restoration and adaptation strategy that will serve as a demonstration site for the Conservancy's North American Disaster Risk Reduction priority.
  • Working with chapter staff and others across the Conservancy, develop and implement common metrics to measure the ecological, social and economic benefits of natural infrastructure projects across the state.
  • Working with policy staff to identify state and/or federal policy mechanisms to promote the restoration of coastal ecosystems and the use of natural infrastructure across the state.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in coastal resource restoration, applied coastal/marine sciences or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, Web browsers, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in coastal/marine sciences or related field.
  • Experience designing and leading coastal restoration projects.
  • Experience in initiating and maintaining partnerships, including working with communities and other partners to implement restoration projects.
  • Experience in developing and writing successful grant proposals.
  • Experience using common GIS applications and GIS analyses.

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions:

  • require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain
  • present frequent possibility of injury
  • require long hours in isolated settings
