Coastal Program Associate

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is seeking a part-time coastal program associate to assist with regional climate change, offshore drilling, and offshore wind energy activities in the Southeast. The ideal candidate will offer knowledge and experience from one or more of the following areas: environmental advocacy, environmental policy, climate change, offshore drilling, and wind energy. However, candidates with a strong aptitude to develop knowledge in those areas will be considered.
Responsibilities:
The coastal program associate will be responsible for assisting with regional outreach,
networking, and events on issues such as the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster, climate change impacts, policy and clean energy solutions in the Southeast, and offshore wind energy development opportunities in South Carolina and Georgia.
Specific responsibilities will include:
• Assist with outreach opportunities for the Southeast Coastal Climate Network and the Florida
Climate Alliance (networks managed by SACE)
• Research and compile news and reports on climate and clean energy issues in the Southeast
• Help prepare public materials including fact sheets, website information and powerpoint
presentations as needed
• Aid with social networking such as blogging, Groupsite, Facebook and Twitter
• Assist in workshop, event and webinar planning as needed
• Provide administrative assistance as needed to SACE’s Coastal Program Coordinator
Qualifications and requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or close to completion of a bachelor’s degree is required.
•Demonstrated skills in a professional setting must include excellent writing skills, verbal
communications, analysis and computer competence.
•Familiarity with environmental issues a must.
•Experience working with government agencies, universities and businesses desirable.
•Ability to work within deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
•Ability to work well with changing and emerging issues and priorities.
•Ability to work both independently and in collaborative environments.
•A commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.
Hours per week: 15-20 hours per week for at least 6 months depending on the needs of the project
Compensation: $12/hr.
Location: Charleston, South Carolina preferred
