I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) is looking for a motivated individual to serve as a Coastal Planning Specialist for the NOAA Pacific Services Center (PSC) in Honolulu, Hawaii. PSC (www.csc.noaa.gov/psc) works in partnership with the natural resource and emergency management communities of the Pacific, including Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and makes NOAA's products and services available to these communities. The position will support coastal risk management and planning related activities in the U.S. Flag Pacific Islands. Responsibilities include coordinating and participating in PSC activities related to climate and hazard risk management.
Duties:
  • Coordinate with PSC partners on community level risk management activities in Pacific
  • Assist local planners with the identification of needs as related to coastal risk management – i.e. hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, community preparedness
  • Facilitate the identification and exchange of lessons learned and best practices as related to coastal risks
  • Assist in the development of outreach, education, and/or training materials
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree, or equivalent work experience, in field related to planning including urban and regional planning, natural resource management, coastal management, or a related field; plus 2 years directly related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Experience with the following desired: risk management planning, participatory planning processes, community based resource management, community based risk management, watershed management planning
