J Position Number: 575 About AIMS The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia’s tropical marine research agency with a mission to deliver world class research for the sustainable development, conservation, and management of tropical marine resources and environments.
The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia, and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support.
Our people deliver innovative research in water quality, tropical marine biodiversity, climate change and marine microbiology.
About this Opportunity This position will work as a key member of AIMS’ oceanography team and research and develop advanced oceanographic models to monitor oceans and marine environments surrounding Australia.
Located at our Arafura-Timor Research Facility in Darwin, this role will directly contribute to Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System and work in a state-of-the-art laboratory and experimental research aquarium.
Attractive working conditions apply including a commencing salary of $77,866 - $107,057 plus 15.4% superannuation, generous leave, relocation assistance and many other benefits. This opportunity will initially be offered for a fixed term period of three years.
About You You will apply a broad range of expertise and experience in physical oceanography to research projects on water circulation and materials transport in key receiving waters in coastal areas of Northern Australia.
You will demonstrate:
We are seeking a candidate that can fill either a Research Support or Research Scientist role in Coastal Oceanography.
If applying as a Research Scientist, a PhD in physical oceanography or a related field and postdoctoral experience or equivalent professional experience is essential. If applying as a Research Support Scientist, a degree relevant to physical oceanography/coastal engineering with 3-8 years professional experience is essential.
