I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) is looking for a motivated individual to join our team at the NOAA Coastal Services Center (CSC) (www.csc.noaa.gov). The NOAA CSC serves the nation’s state coastal programs and others concerned with coastal zone issues and management by providing them with information, services, and technology. The qualified candidate will have a choice to work at one of the CSC offices located in Charleston SC, Durham NH, or Oakland CA.    

The position will support the Center’s strategic emphasis on helping communities adapt to coastal hazards and climate change by working with Center staff and partners to deliver training and technical assistance on elements of adaptation planning.  The Center serves the nation’s coastal resource managers, in part, through training, workshops, and professional conferences. The Center also provides a wide range of related consulting services on topics that include follow-up technical support on implementing skills learned through courses and at workshops.  

Duties:

Work as part of a team that includes Center staff and regional partners to:

  • Support coordination of climate adaptation training by working with local hosts to identify and incorporate local and regional expertise and experiences into course delivery.
  • Modify course content to include regional climate impacts and issues into course materials and presentations.
  • Serve as a trainer to deliver information and facilitate group discussions and skill-building exercises on climate adaptation topics including:
    • Climate adaptation planning concepts
    • Risk assessment
    • Communicating climate issues
  • Evaluate effectiveness of learning activities through evaluations designed and employed to effectively assess audience feedback
  • Serve as a resource on climate adaptation and/or community resilience activities by providing technical assistance for internal CSC needs and for NOAA partners and customers.
  • Participate as part of a network of coastal and marine education and extension partners to develop and/or deliver outreach, training, and technical assistance. 

Qualifications: 

  • MS in planning, environmental science, geography, applied climatology, or related field and a minimum two years directly related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in risk assessment, hazard mitigation, and/or climate adaptation planning
  • Basic facilitation skills to design and deliver a variety of individual, small group, and large group exercises and activities that enhance learning and application.
  • Written and oral skills to communicate concepts and engage the audience 
  • Ability to develop effective outreach and engagement tools and approaches
  • Ability to evaluate learning activities and technical assistance for the coastal management community
  • Desired but not required:  knowledge of instructional design and advanced facilitation skills
