Greenpeace is seeking a passionate and experienced Coal Campaigner who will coordinate its national campaign to close coal-fired power plants around the country and replace them with renewable energy and efficiency technologies. In consultation with other members of the Climate Campaign Team, s/he will develop the national strategy and will work with on-the-ground campaigners/organizers to implement local strategies to close and replace specific coal-fired power plants. S/he must be a self-starter, an independent worker, and a campaigner with a track record.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and Implement Campaign Strategy - In conjunction with the Campaign Director, provide expertise, input and guidance on the development of national and local strategies to shut coal plants down while phasing in renewable energy and efficiency technologies
Act as a Team Leader - Coordinate coal team members at the national and local level. Prepare and manage related project proposals and budget expenditures in support of the agreed project plan in order to ensure integrated activities that are aimed at achieving the objectives of the campaign. Act as a campaign “spokesperson” to media and at public events.
Identify Research and Communication Materials Needs of Campaign - In conjunction with the Campaign’s Senior Analyst, identify and coordinate background investigations/research/science needs for the national and local campaign initiatives. In conjunction with other Team members, identify and help to coordinate the drafting and production of campaign materials needed at the national and local level.
Support Development and Implementation of Lobby Strategies - Work with national and local staff to develop and implement lobby strategies with federal, state and local officials in support of campaign objectives.
Develop and Maintain Internal and External Networks - In partnership with the Campaign’s Coalition Liaison, develop and maintain relationships with other national NGO’s working on coal.
Participate in Civil Disobedience - Proactively contribute to the development and implementation of innovative strategies for civil disobedience in accordance with Greenpeace’s non-violent principles in order to maximize impact on the media/public/target in achieving agreed-upon campaign objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
BA/BS degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Skills
Organizational skills, including experience with project administration

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Leadership ability
Experience and Accomplishments
A minimum of 4 years experience in environmental grassroots organization— preferably dealing with coal, energy and/or global warming issues
Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team
Well-rounded with ability to work with a variety of people and groups
Proven experience in directing a project from conception to completion and clear track record in overseeing effective campaigns
Strong skills and experience in public speaking/lobbying and/or organizing people around an issue
Commitment to non-violence as a means of affecting change
