World Wide Animal Society (WWAS) is an UK based non-profit organisation; we formed in order to protect and conserve endangered species, but also create awareness about animals and the environment and provide educational support all over the world. WWAS also aims to carry out research into threatened species in order to learn more allowing us to provide more protection. WWAS is currently supporting conservation activities in biodiversity hotspots in Africa and Asia.
Project profile: We have started a research program looking at the law enforcement system in India focusing on tiger crimes. The project will run through a year - Starting on the 1st of October 2012
This project will provide first thorough analysis of the reasons behind the low conviction rate, allowing us to address the concerned issues which in turn will provide essential information.
We are gathering data on tiger poaching cases from two states in India - Delhi and Uttarakhan, and we will also be interviewing forest enforcement staff as well to get information for this project and for their training needs as one of our next projects may be to improve forest guards training.
Though the project will be conducted in two northern states of India it will ultimately help in improving conviction rate against the tiger poaching cases across India.
Activities and responsibilities:
- Assist the projects principal investigator in data gathering, data analysis and reporting.
- Accompany Project principal investigator during field trips to tiger reserves in north India.
- Conduct formal and informal interviews with forest guards, rangers and other enforcement officers.
- Attend meetings with judicial officers whenever requested.
- Write communication stories and technical reports for project activities.
- Any other tasks assigned by WWAS India representative and WWAS Project Manager.

The project provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the plight of endangered species in India with particular reference to tiger. The co-investigator will also get opportunity to interact with wide range of stakeholders in the conservation field in India right from forest guards to senior enforcement officers to judicial members. Co-investigator will also get an opportunity to visit one of the best tiger reserve of the world “The Corbett Tiger reserve”.
