CMCC Position Research Associate for IT System Administrator

The CMCC is taking into consideration the possibility to hire a talented, motivated and proactive IT system administrator to support the maintenance and monitoring of the computing infrastructure and services used by Ocean-Lab, CMCC.

This position is open under the sponsorship of the Italian project ‘development of TEchnologies for the Situational Sea Awareness’ (TESSA) (http://tessa.linksmt.it) awarded to CMCC by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
The TESSA project will develop a set of products and services for Situational Sea Awareness based on new operational oceanography environmental data integrated into advanced technological platforms for users in the maritime sector, tourism and environmental protection.

The location is CMCC Ocean-Lab in Lecce (Le), Italy.

The primary purposes for this position is to work within the IT team in supporting the administration and management of the computing and storage infrastructure used by the Ocean-Lab for research, production. The main activities will be related to:

• support systems administration of clients, servers at Ocean-Lab;
• support the installation and maintenance of operating systems, applications, backup/restore systems;
• support the compilation and installation of applications and operational procedures on the computing resources;
• monitoring ocean forecasting operational systems;
• develop documentation describing operational procedures.

The desired qualifications are:
The following skills/experience are required:

• Experience with administration of PC Clients (Linux/Windows/Apple);
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux, Windows, Apple operating systems;
• Knowledge of script languages (i.e. UNIX shell, Perl, Python);
• Experience with setup and administration of web/mail/directory servers;
• Experience with networking configuration and management;
• Experience with virtualization software (VMware, Xen);
• Knowledge of English.

Following experiences will be very welcome:

• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios);
• Experience with resources manager and scheduler (i.e. Slurm, Torque);
• A Master in informatics, mathematics, engineering or related disciplines;

The initial appointment is for n° 12 months starting as soon as possible at an annual salary ranging from 21K  to 35K Euros, comprehensive of benefits,depending on qualification and experience.
