Description

Within the framework of its strategic plan which runs up to 2015, Factor CO2 is seeking to expand operations among Multilateral Development Banks and other international organizations in several areas, including adaptation to climate change. Potential services will include (but not be limited to) climate change risk management assessing climate trends, projections, hazards and likely impacts; natural and social vulnerabilities; adaptation and risk management measures; policy and capacity-building; mainstreaming.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

Project management:

  • Guiding and supporting day-to-day operations, providing project planning and developing work plans, progress reports, and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Grow the scope and scale of projects in the field of adaptation to climate change mitigation, including (but not limited to) vulnerability analyses, social and economic impacts, and development of climate resilience policies and programmes.

Partnership building and external relations:

  • Establish and maintain productive and positive relationships with Multilateral Development Banks, international government officials, bilateral donor organizations, and local partners.
  • Development of strategic partnerships with other institutions and companies in view of complementing Factor CO2’s skills and increasing the scope of current projects.

Policy and guidance:

  • Monitor international developments with respect to climate change and in particular the design and implementation of international adaptation policies.
  • Providing methodological guidance, technical advice, and regular backstopping to Factor CO2’s advisory services in the area of climate resilience.

Fundraising

  • Coordination of acquisition processes, including the establishment of consortia, and the development of technical proposals.
  • Proactively coordinate the exploration of new funding opportunities.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good relevant degree from a leading university in the country of education (e.g. preferably in engineering or science).
  • Advanced degree in natural resource management, environmental economics, environmental policy or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in climate change risk management assessing climate trends, projections, hazards and likely impacts; natural and social vulnerabilities; adaptation and risk management measures; policy and capacity-building; mainstreaming.
  • Demonstrated experience with Multilateral Development Banks in the areas of natural resource management and adaptation to climate change.
  • Significant experience managing complex programmes in developing countries.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, with exceptional writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Spanish and French highly desirable.
  • Working experience in MDBs and/or international donor organisations highly desirable.

  • Ability to travel a minimum of 25% per year, nationally and internationally.
