The position is responsible for helping the Program Director to deliver two primary services: (1) helping to foster formal partnerships around climate-oriented conservation planning and implementation; and (2) supporting state offices of The Trust for Public Land in implementation of those partnerships.  The Program Associate will help achieve success in these areas by doing research, developing and tracking work plans for each partnership, and coordinating work across multiple offices and departments.  Because the scope of The Trust for Public Land’s climate conservation work is broad, the Program Associate will need to maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in multiple areas, from urban-climate issues to climate adaptation in large landscapes.

Essential Functions

  • Foster Climate Conservation Program development in urban communities and natural landscapes across the country.  This will include support for field staff as they develop relationships with local governments and academia, working in close collaboration with the Trust for Public Land’s state offices to design and develop multi-year climate conservation initiatives, tracking and driving activities to assure that benchmarks are met, and identifying appropriate public and private partners for each effort.
  • Provide support services for project implementation.  This will include supporting The Trust for Public Land’s state offices with climate expertise in issues like urban-climate project design, climate science, management of GIS services to develop climate planning, planning and facilitation of public meetings, preparation of reports and presentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Market and promote the Climate Conservation Program, including serving as a spokesperson in public forums and the media.   This will include attending national, regional, and state level events as a spokesperson and actively seeking opportunities to promote The Trust forPublic Land’s expertise and program.
  • Provide general support for all aspects of Climate Conservation Program operations.  This includes support for fundraising, such as assistance in development of materials, and general coordination of communications with internal and external parties.

Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to track complex activities and timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work confidently with a wide range of internal and external audiences.
  • Strong background in climate science and climate change issues as they pertain to urban areas, climate adaptation, and climate mitigation.
  • Comfort with reading and interpreting GIS maps.
