Description

Wiltshire Council has an ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2030 and has recently been rated highly by Climate Emergency UK scorecard. We have an exciting opportunity for a Climate Officer on a permanent full time contract with the option of hybrid working.

LIVE·WORK·INNOVATE

The Climate Team was set up in 2020 and is responsible for leading Wiltshire Council’s response to the climate emergency. The team works with officers and members across the council, with external partners and businesses to deliver on this agenda. Climate change is a key priority for Wiltshire Council and will require careful planning and be results-driven.

About this role

As a climate officer, you will contribute to the council’s response to the climate emergency, through the delivery of the council’s Climate Strategy.

You will be managing a number of multi-disciplinary project teams using your specialist knowledge and you will be working with managers and partners to develop and implement a corporate and partnership approach to responding to the climate emergency in Wiltshire.

You will implement a range of climate projects, including externally funded contracts, taking responsibility for all aspects of the project including supervision of external consultants and project staff.

This role will primarily focus on our built environment delivery theme, and the priority area of retrofitting to help achieve the ambition for the county of Wiltshire to be carbon neutral.

An excellent communicator, you will develop key contacts and build effective working relationships with senior managers and councillors and with external stakeholders.

You will monitor changes in national and regional policy and be responsible for interpreting this for its impact on local policy and delivery.  You will lead the preparation of responses to public consultations in areas of policy-relevant to the climate emergency and provide specialist advice and input to Cabinet reports, relevant planning applications, Freedom of Information requests, and procurement decisions.

About you

You will be Degree level qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant area such as environmental management, town planning, or climate science and able to demonstrate significant experience in a similar role, with the ability to demonstrate excellent project management skills and expertise. Town planning experience and qualifications will be a benefit in this role. Experience and qualification in energy efficiency buildings retrofit will be an advantage.

Passionate about our environment, you will possess proven expert knowledge and experience of climate issues along with expert, up-to-date working knowledge of the agenda. As a climate officer, you will have a successful track record of developing and delivering systems, policies, and procedures and experience in budget management.

Interviews will be held on: Thursday 19th May 2022
