NIWA is a leading environmental research institute and key provider of atmospheric, freshwater and marine research and consultancy services in New Zealand. We are seeking an enthusiastic and competent climate modeller, with a strong background in climate science and computer programming, to support and undertake climate research within New Zealand. The main focus is on modelling present-day climate variability and future climate trends, but the position could also include related climate research such as the analysis and interpretation of climate data, and seasonal climate prediction. The position will involve working on existing projects and a variety of climate-related applications as well as developing new initiatives. A research degree in atmospheric science, physics or mathematics and knowledge of climate processes is essential. Candidates must have experience in running climate models in a supercomputing environment, and be able to demonstrate excellent programming skills. Experience in analysing and visualizing large data sets is also essential. Familiarity with Southern Hemisphere weather and climate systems would be an advantage. The position requires an ability to communicate well and to contribute to quality scientific papers, presentations, and reports to clients. |
