The successful applicant will have strong expertise in climate science or a related natural science. Experience in applying output from global climate models to research or developing applications aimed at understanding climate change or utilizing that knowledge to address challenges in other related subjects such as ecology, hydrology, etc., and a strong understanding of the data and information needs of these communities is essential. Experience in the development and application of models of highly complex natural systems and their interaction with climate is highly desirable. Familiarity with mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, computational methods or computer science, or work with extremely large data sets (e.g., larger than 100 terabytes), while desirable, is not required. Ph.D. in climate science or a related natural science, plus 3 years experience will be required.
 
Essential Job Functions
  • Directs the organization and performance of certain functional areas and the activities of senior staff and managers. Provides staff direction with an understanding of and adherence to established company policies and procedures.
  • Oversees research activities to ensure a high standard of professional excellence is maintained among staff members.
  • Directs business function including approval of overall research agenda and plans, budgets, and work breakdown structure.
  • Establishes, implements and directs short- and long-term strategies to deliver services to customers in accordance with established schedules and budgets.
  • Establishes, communicates and directs goals and objectives, defines methodologies, tasks, and activities. Describes roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations to personnel. Communicates broadly to help ensure overall coordination for cross-functional teams.
  • Provides industry expertise and business acumen. Articulates leading practices and facilitates the creation, management and movement of information.
  • Prepares, recommends and oversees development of operating and personnel budgets. Monitors spending for adherence to budget plans, develops and recommends variances. Performs and/or oversees budget analysis.
  • Selects and hires employees. Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Motivates and rewards employees including providing salary increases, bonuses and promotions within allocated budgets and company guidelines.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's degree in related field preferred
  • Fifteen or more years of related experience
  • Nine or more years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Experience working with past and present CSC business environment
  • Experience working with concepts, practices, and procedures in areas of responsibility
  • Experience working with management implications of various forms of financial data
Other Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in climate science or a related natural science, plus 3 years experience required.
  • Strong communication skills needed to interface with high-level customer representatives
  • Strong strategic management and planning skills
  • Ability to publicly represent company with internal and external clients
  • Ability to use own judgment and initiative in problem resolution
  • Willingness to travel
