Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE) is looking for a new climate and energy campaigner with a focus on energy efficiency and access to energy.

Based in the Friends of the Earth Europe office in Brussels, full time, to start as soon as possible.

Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE) campaigns for sustainable and just societies and for the protection of the environment. We unite more than 30 national organisations with thousands of local groups. We are part of the world's largest grassroots environmental network, Friends of the Earth International, with the priority to mobilize people in all corners of the world for a radical change in our food and energy systems and are part of Friends of the Earth International, the world's largest grassroots environmental network. We are committed to environmental, social and gender justice, which implies understanding the structural causes of environmental problems and demanding and building real solutions to the problems. You are a smart and driven person who can both influence the EU decision-makers, and tackle the longer-term goal of changing the way that decisions are made. You have a minimum of three years professional campaign experience with NGOs, movements or in an international network with a specific focus on matters related to energy efficiency and access to energy. You're able to continue FoEE's vital work on Brussels-based EU advocacy for higher energy efficiency targets. You're also able to work directly with our diverse European network and specifically put energy efficiency work in relation to our overall campaign to get Europe away from fossil fuels. You are dedicated to win specific goals in order to achieve long term systemic change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the development and implementation of FoEE campaign on energy efficiency and energy access
  • Advocacy work to influence EU policies on energy efficiency (current 'EU 2030 package')
  • Collaborating with a diverse European network to empower people and movements to act on energy efficiency and energy access;
  • Research and scope new areas of campaign work in collaboration with allies and the International FoE federation.
  • Representing FoEE towards the European institutions and stakeholders in Brussels;
  • Leading the development and adoption of timely policy positions on relevant issues;
  • Drafting media releases and statements, and being press spokesperson on relevant issues;
  • Contributing to fundraising efforts
  • Contributing to internal FoEE structures and organisational development

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant professional campaign experience with NGOs, movements or in an international network;
  • Knowledge of climate and energy policies and politics, in particular on energy efficiency and energy access;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and decision-making;
  • Experience in delivering successful advocacy work;
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, strong sense of initiative, and reliability;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in drafting funding proposals
  • Fluent in written and oral English which is the working language of the office;
  • Commitment to FoEE's values and mission.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in bringing policy intelligence to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience in building power of people's movements
  • Experience with creative action planning
  • Other languages additional to English are an advantage
  • Ability to /experience of supervising interns

Remuneration:

FoEE offers a highly motivating, international working environment in an office located in an environmentally friendly NGO building in Brussels. The salary is between EUR2,710 to 3,150 gross, depending on experience, plus an attractive benefits package, including a 13th month, lunch vouchers, an additional 5 days of holidays per year, pension scheme, hospitalisation and comprehensive travel insurance. We also offer full coverage of train travel in case of commuting within Belgium.

Conditions are according to Belgian employment legislation, hence the position is open solely to persons with right to obtaining a work permit in the EU/Belgium.

This is a full time position, with the aim to extend the contract after one year.
