The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists.  We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.  Our staff of over 400 includes attorneys, scientists, policy analysts and educators working to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.

 

Position Summary:

NRDC seeks a Climate Field Director to work in the Climate Center at its Washington, D.C. office.  The Climate Field Director will manage the Climate Center’s field campaign staff in 8-10 states and coordinate campaign activities with NRDC staff in 3-4 additional states. The Climate Field Director reports to the Climate Campaign Director and works closely with staff in the Climate Center, the Legislative Affairs and Communications Departments and other NRDC staff. The Climate Field Director is responsible for coordinating with the field directors and programs of other environmental and non-environmental groups as required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage field campaign staff in 8-10 states to build support for federal policies to address global warming.
  • Work with other NRDC staff as necessary to support and augment the field campaign staff.  
  • Work with the legislative and communications teams to evaluate priority field targets and create field and communications strategies that are complementary to NRDC’s policy agenda;
  • Establish strategic national and state campaign plans that deploy NRDC experts into key states for high level meetings and media opportunities;
  • Coordinate field work with other coalition efforts and manage relationships and participation in those coalitions.
