The Climate Emergency team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and considerate professionals are tasked engaging with local residents and creatively tackling the climate change issues that impact the people of Westminster.

Our team member, Isabella, has worked closely with local Primary Schools to create new initiatives that could help make Westminster a more sustainable, eco-friendly had the vision to team up with pupils in local Primary Schools to create new initiatives that could make Westminster a more sustainable, eco-friendly place to live, work, and play. Since joining the team,

Isabella has engaged and collaboratively worked with many of the local schools. This has helped spread awareness of the climate emergency and motivated young people to take action in their schools and at home.

In addition to educating young people about the challenges we all face in relation to climate change, the projects and campaigns we’re working on at Westminster City Council are helping us to create a better, brighter future for everyone – even beyond the boundaries of our local authority. Innovation, imagination, and boundless compassion are at the heart of everything this team works on.

The Role:

As a Climate Emergency Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution to the future of Westminster. As a council, we are focused on becoming net zero carbon by 2030, and the city of Westminster by 2040. Our ambitions are underpinned by our Climate Emergency Action Plan, which outlines the steps we are taking to meet our ambitious target.

You will play a vital role in helping to deliver the commitments set out in our Action Plan in a variety of roles. You will help to manage and monitor the progress of action delivery, working with teams and delivery partners across the council.

The Action Plan focuses on several key emission themes, so you’ll be involved in supporting work across the built environment, clean energy, sustainable transport and building a green and resilient city.

As our understanding of how to tackle the Climate Emergency grows, the Action Plan will continue to develop - you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of this process and contribute new suggestions. You will help to build our evidence to support these decisions and use your own experience to put forward recommendations.

Building effective partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders will be vital to successfully delivering our plan, and you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with community engagement and outreach.

As part of the core Climate Emergency team, you play an important part in ensuring that the Climate Emergency Programme and Action Plan is delivered effectively, whilst supporting and inspiring others to join us on our journey to net zero.

About You:

You will have a variety of roles in supporting the delivery of the Climate Emergency programme.

You’ll have the opportunity to lead the delivery of specific actions and work packages, managing timelines, milestones, risks & issues. You’ll work with different teams across the council, providing support to help them achieve their specific climate objectives.

You’ll engage with both internal and external stakeholders, helping to increase awareness of the Climate Emergency programme. You’ll work with council staff considering what actions they building to their day to day and connect with Westminster’s communities to help encourage collaborative action.

You’ll contribute towards strategic programme decisions and provide insight to assist with decision making. You’ll have the opportunity to further develop your skills and build knowledge in key programme areas.
