The RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment is a research institute co-founded in 2018 by RFF and CMCC. The Institute’s mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement. EIEE promotes a highly interdisciplinary, international and collaborative research experience. The institute is committed to high academic standards, as testified by 7 ERC grants won by EIEE researchers.

EIEE is encouraging applications by empirical climate economists interested in working on high-stakes climate issues. Research topics include the distributional impacts of climate policies, the labour market implications of the climate transition, the role of digital technologies in the climate transition, the identification of technologies and business practices for a circular economy, and of the key socio-economic drivers promoting their uptake. The ideal candidate for this position holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in economics, data science, applied mathematics or statistics; and shows a strong track record in quantitative methods (advanced econometrics, computational methods, machine learning, etc.). The candidate will work on international research projects focused on a just climate transition or the circular economy.

Duties will be carried out in Milan (Italy) in the vibrant design district (@BASE). The selected candidate will interact with researchers of different research background and nationalities. She/he will focus on writing top quality scientific papers, will be engaged in a global network, and will have the chance to present at major conferences. EIEE promotes a collaborative working place environment that values diversity, tolerance, and equity.

Assignments are expected to begin in the second half of 2022. The appointment period will be initially of one year, renewable for up to two additional years. The gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centres in Europe.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and will then be required to submit two letters of recommendation. Interviews will be conducted during the EAERE Conference and on a rolling basis until the position is filled. For any further information or clarification, please contact job@eiee.org.
