Description

The Environment Commissioning Group within the Environment, Transport and Infrastructure (ETI) directorate at Surrey County Council (SCC) is seeking to appoint a Climate Change Programme Manager.

The Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ETI) directorate is responsible for a wide range of services including climate change, renewable energy, highways, transport, planning, countryside and waste management. These services are critical for people living, working and travelling through Surrey, delivered by the county council or in partnership 

About the Team 

The Environment Commissioning Group plays a crucial role in supporting the commitment of the Council in reducing CO2 emissions in Surrey to net zero by 2050, or sooner (and by 2030 for the Council). The team works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to set in motion the Council's carbon reduction ambitions and to develop Surrey’s green economy. 

About the role 

As Climate Change Programme Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and driving forward the Council's carbon reduction agenda, as set out in Surrey's Climate Change Strategy (launched in 2020) and Delivery Plan (due to be launched in June 2021). 

About you 

This is an exciting challenge for a pro-active individual with strong programme management skills in the climate change mitigation/environment sector. To be shortlisted for an interview for this position, your application and supporting statement will clearly evidence the following skills and expertise: 

  • At least five years experience working in the climate change (or related) sector and/or a relevant qualification  
  • Ability to communicate and/or report complex environmental issues to a range of audiences (including young people, residents, politicians etc)  
  • Adept at managing multiple complex projects with competing demands  
  • Good awareness of the politics and business change taking place across the organisation that could impact the climate change agenda  
  • An awareness of key industry/policy changes and impacts on the climate change agenda  
  • Excellent stakeholder skills at all levels and assessment of drivers/needs  
  • Ability and experience of working in a political setting  
  • A strong background in green finance and financial mechanisms (desired)
