Climate Change Officer

Richmondshire District Council has declared a climate emergency and set itself the ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. As the Climate Change Officer, you will be responsible for planning, developing and delivering the Council’s climate change action plan and assisting colleagues deliver the climate related aims of the new Council Plan.

This is an exciting opportunity to embrace a new role for the Council and to work closely with elected Members, Senior Managers, colleagues and partner organisations by offering them expert advice and assistance. We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional with a background in climate change policy, carbon management and environmental sustainability. While a sound understanding of national and international legislation, policy and strategy is essential, experience of delivering awareness programmes and knowledge of utilities management is desirable. The successful candidate will be a communicator and have the proven ability to undertake effective research, analyse data and challenge decisions appropriately to ensure all processes are robust.

Based at the Council’s office in the heart of historic Richmond you will be working as part of the Planning Team in a busy but well supported environment and, reporting to the Planning Manager you will enjoy a varied and rewarding workload that will be at the heart of the Council’s policy and service delivery.
