About us

Redditch Borough and Bromsgrove District Councils are Situated in North Worcestershire.

The role

To lead the delivery of the two Councils’ commitments to Climate Change, and raise the profile of Bromsgrove and Redditch locally, regionally and nationally, so that it is recognised as a leading edge Council for carbon management and climate change.

You will lead on the development of strategies, policies, plans, systems and resources to maintain efficient and effective carbon management energy efficiency/generation and environmental sustainability initiatives and support others in gaining and managing grant funding from external sources, ensuring its overall efficient management and deployment of funding to projects, operations and external audit controls.

You will provide specialist advice across internal services and external partners, alongside influencing external businesses and residents in carbon reduction initiatives. This specialist advice to include energy efficiency and management, and alternative fuel types and infrastructure.

Key requirements

To lead on the development and on-going management of corporate carbon reduction initiatives. More specifically this will involve establishing baselines, setting targets, monitoring and reviewing performance, reporting progress and making recommendations for further work and to provide expert technical advice to officers and Members on climate change, environmental and broader sustainability considerations including current and forthcoming legislation, regulations and requirements for local government. Translate this into clear measures that service areas need to implement to ensure compliance and make recommendations with regard to the Councils’ response to the implications of relevant policy and legislation.

Skills & experience

You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of current and developing theories and legislative framework on climate change and
have at least 3 years experience of delivering climate change policies and initiatives within a large public or private sector organisation.

As well as at least 3 years post qualification experience of developing policies and strategies in an environmental, climate change or similar related area and educated to degree level or equivalent in climate change, environment or sustainability
