WORKING AREAS:

Inverted Pyramid Consulting is seeking two dynamic and highly motivated candidates for the post of CLIMATE CHANGE INTERN (S) (Policy Research), to work in the following areas:

        I.            Policy analysis and action research  on issues pertaining to climate change and its linkages with Mother and Child Health, Food Security, Gender development (women empowerment) and sustainable livelihoods from the perspective of rural and slum communities of India. (West Bengal-3 Different Sites- Sunderbans-Wetland Ecosystem, Urban Slum and Agricultural Village)

     II.            Policy analysis (international, national & state) and fact-finding mission related to gap, scope and prospect of Social safeguards: protecting the rights and interests of Indigenous People and forest-dependent communities in REDD+ and climate change adaptation initiatives and mythological issues associated with REDD+. (Field Areas: India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Srilanka and Bhutan).

Job title:  Climate Change Intern (Policy Research)

Internship stipend:  will be provided based on experience and education.

Reporting Officer:  Senior Consultant

Office base: Kolkata (West Bengal, India) (some travelling may be required)

Time period: 6-8 Months (Flexible)

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic research findings (tangible outputs: submission of a detailed analytical report, database (excel) and prospective plans) in above mentioned themes.
• Interview different stakeholders (Donors, Govt. Departments, NGOs, CBOs, Media etc.) about their work, their feedbacks, future plans pertaining to above themes and documenting them (preparation of database).
• Participate in the planning and supervision of organization’s ongoing projects giving pragmatic and strategic inputs if asked for.
• Assist and support the Senior Consultant(s) in the achievement of goals and targets in co-ordination with partner agencies and communities.
• Conduct outreach and coordinate research to influence debates on above themes (REDD+, Mother and Child Health, Climate Change and Adaptation Strategies) to advance improvements  by contributing writings like:  articles for newspapers highlighting Inverted Pyramid’s work, blogs for Inverted Pyramid’s website (s), good research articles for Inverted Pyramid’s in house journals and different thematic publications.
• Interns may gain experience in identifying grant opportunities, developing proposals for government and private foundation grants, reporting to donor agencies, researching development trends and participating in seminars on development issues of relevance to Inverted Pyramid’s interest areas.
• Development of content for the website and regularly updating them.

• Must have laptops. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and internet research are quintessential).
• Willingness to travel.

• Inverted Pyramid Consulting will provide full furnished guest rooms for the interns as per availability; in case of non availability it may provide assistance to interns to get decent accommodation in Kolkata.
• Interns may avail total 7 days (not more than 2 days per month) leave in the entire tenure of their internship as per organizational norms.
