The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) is seeking a motivated individual with strong communication skills for an 11-month, full-time internship at NWF’s Pacific Regional Center (PRC) in Seattle, WA.

Our conservation work focuses on three major areas that will have the biggest impact on the future of America’s wildlife: Halting Global Warming; Safeguarding Wildlife from the Effects of Climate Change; and Connecting People with Nature. The Global Warming Intern will assist in advancing our efforts in these principle areas:

Help fish and wildlife adapt to climate change
• Contribute to the development Washington’s statewide adaptation response strategy
• Support Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife’s efforts to integrate climate change into planning and implementation of agency activities.
• Contribute to NWF’s adaptation campaign planning, advocacy, and implementation
• Produce educational materials and reports related to climate impacts and adaptation responses
• Assist in researching scientific literature to produce technical documents and reports related to climate impacts and adaptation actions
• Promote adaptation actions by federal, state and private entities

Protect floodplains and riparian corridors
• Develop and advocate for federal, state, and local policies to improve floodplain protection and restoration
• Monitor federal, state and local agencies to ensure their floodplain management policies protect fish and wildlife, reduce flood risk, and maintain clean water.
• Conduct or support GIS analysis of flooding, flood costs, floodplain development, and other components of concern.
• Gather information and produce educational materials and reports related to floodplain protection, restoration and the need to improve floodplain policies.
• Develop and promote statewide floodplain legislation.

Re-connect families with nature
• Assist in research projects and produce education materials and reports
• Assist at events, fundraisers and other meetings.
• Provide support to staff as requested.
• Update facebook and twitter sites weekly with information related to NWF programs, events and regional objectives.
