The RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE) is a research institute co-founded in 2018 by Resources for the Future (RFF) and the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC). The institutes mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement. The Institute is committed to being a central focal point for research insights and policy solutions within Europe, and connecting that work internationally. This is achieved by combining excellence in environmental and energy economics with the climate science and policy competences. EIEE has strong ties with a world-wide network of research institutions engaged in environmental research, climate change, and economics allow for a very interactive, collaborative and interdisciplinary work and research experience.

RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment is currently encouraging applications for several junior and senior researcher positions in the macro-area of research Climate Change Economics and Integrated Assessment Modelling.

Duties associated with this research position include  maintaining and developing the WITCH IAM. This can be related to aspects such as energy systems modelling, macro-economic modelling, analysis of distributional impacts, technological change, uncertainty and decision theory. The ideal candidate holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in economics, or engineering/mathematics/physics/computer science/statistics coupled with an economic background. Proficiency in at least one programming, modelling or statistical language (i.e. R, GAMS, Stata, Python, or Julia) is an important requirement. Previous experience in (integrated assessment) modelling, as well as a proven publication track record, will be particularly valued. An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential for this position.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.

Duties will be carried out in Milan (Italy) in the heart of the vibrant design district (@ BASE). The selected candidate will interact with researchers of different nationalities. She/he will focus on writing top quality scientific papers, will be engaged in a global network and will have the chance to attend major conferences.

Assignment are expected to being in early-mid 2020. The appointment period will be initially of one year, renewable for up to two more years. The gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centres in Europe.
