Brief Description The Climate Change and Sustainability Services departments offers a range of advisory and assurance services on corporate governance, sustainable development and climate change and is looking for an Assistant in Johannesburg to work on assignments within the broad sustainable development and climate change fields or sustainable development and corporate governance (the areas of focus will depend on the exact qualifications and background of the individual). The individual will work under the direction of a Manager/Senior Manager and will perform moderately complex, high risk or high profile individual projects in line with the client's requirement and methodologies previously developed or developed for that specific assignment. Responsibilities · assurance of reports and/or process o obtaining documentation or evidence that supports statements in reports or process descriptions o documenting and assessing the effectiveness of processes · verification of key performance indicators, performance data and carbon emissions o conducting system walkthroughs o completing system descriptions o collecting supporting evidence to verify the indicators and data · advisory services around sustainable development and climate change o benchmarking leading sustainability reporters across various industries o compiling minutes of interviews o documenting and analyzing the current state of activities within organizations · advisory services around corporate governance strategies, frameworks and leading practice o researching best practice o benchmarking companies practices to regulations or leading practice · Overall, documenting all work performed, actions taken, conclusions reached to the required standard Qualifications and Experience We are looking for either people with a technical background or auditing background and with 0-1 years work experience in the environmental or broad business field. Technical background could include environmental, engineering, process, economics, social sciences, accounting and business administration, etc. Auditing background could include internal or external auditing, or specialised verification or certification experience. The individual should ideally have a degree in the specific areas of focus and be willing to broaden their knowledge to the entire concept of sustainable development, climate change and/or corporate governance. Skills The successful candidate should have good project management skills; the ability to communicate on all levels in a professional environment and committed to self-development. A sound track record of service delivery, working knowledge of Excel and Word and the ability to work independently.
